The big picture — 6 things every Class IX teacher must internalise

Mathematics Rakesh

Was (old)

  • 12 chapters; single level.
  • Number Systems, Polynomials, Coordinate Geometry (basics only), Euclid, Lines & Angles, Triangles, Quadrilaterals, Circles, Heron's Formula, Surface Areas & Volumes, Statistics.
  • Class X had Basic vs Standard maths.

Now (2026-27)

  • 15 chapters, 6 units, competency-mapped (204 periods).
  • New: Sequences & Progressions (AP + GP, fractals, Tower of Hanoi); Exploring Algebraic Identities with algebra tiles; distance & midpoint formulas moved into Class IX; pyramids & Brahmagupta's cyclic-quadrilateral formula in Mensuration; Probability adds tree diagrams & empirical-vs-theoretical.
  • IKS everywhere: Baudhayana Sulbasutras, Aryabhata/Madhava on π, chakra motifs. Computational thinking woven into each chapter.
  • Class X Basic/Standard split is discontinued for this cohort; replaced by Standard + optional Advanced.
Exam: 80 theory + 20 IA. Typology weightage ≈ Remember/Understand 43 · Apply 19 · Analyse-Evaluate-Create 18. IA = pen-paper+multiple 10, portfolio 5, lab practical 5.
Advanced (optional): Sets, Logarithms, Relations & Functions, analytic straight lines, Combinatorics, GP series — Class XI foundations pulled forward. 25-mark HOTS paper. Great for JEE/Olympiad-track students.

  • 5 units; Physics/Chemistry/Biology chapters, single level.
  • Motion, Force, Gravitation, Work & Energy, Sound; Matter, Atoms, Structure of Atom; Cell, Tissues, Food Resources.

Now (2026-27)

  • 4 units, 13 chapters, Standard Code 086.
  • Unit I World of Living (27): Cell, Tissues, Reproduction, Diversity.
  • Unit II Matter (25): Exploring Mixtures & Separation, Structure of an Atom, Atoms & Molecules.
  • Unit III Motion, Force, Work & Sound (23): now includes simple machines & mechanical advantage.
  • Unit IV NEW — Earth as a System (5): solar radiation, differential heating, biogeochemical cycles, human impact.
  • 13 practicals incl. speed of a pulse in a slinky, lever mechanical advantage, energy conservation via pendulum.
Exam: 80 theory + 20 IA. Competency split 50% understanding / 30% application / 20% higher-order. ~33% internal choice. IA: periodic 10, subject-enrichment/practical 5, portfolio 5.
Teaching split at GJMS: Physics teacher → Unit III; Chemistry teacher → Unit II; Biology teacher → Unit I + the new Earth-as-a-System unit. Advanced (optional): pseudo forces, torque, H-line spectrum & Bohr maths, chemical bonding, electron microscopy, biotechnology — 25-mark HOTS paper.

Social Science Nandini

Was (old)

  • Four separate books: India & Contemporary World-I, Contemporary India-I, Democratic Politics-I, Economics.
  • French/Russian Revolution, Nazism; Physical Features, Drainage, Climate; Democracy, Constitutional Design, Electoral Politics; Palampur, Poverty, Food Security.

Now (2026-27)

  • Two integrated books — Social Science Part 1 (9 themes) + Part 2 (7 themes). Disciplines woven into themes.
  • New content: plate tectonics & GLOF disasters; oceans & maritime law; entrepreneurship & startups (Make in India, MSMEs, basic accounting); personal finance (budgeting, compound interest, mutual funds, insurance, income tax); Kautilya's danda-nyaya-bala theory of authority; Anti-Defection Law; prehistory→1700 CE with Indian Knowledge Systems.
  • Dropped: French/Russian Revolution, Nazism, and the old Civics/Economics chapter structure.
Exam: 80 theory + 20 IA, ~50% competency. Note: CBSE has not yet released the unit-wise marks weightage — our sample paper uses an interim blueprint weighted by the instructional hours per theme. Update when CBSE publishes the course structure.
Watch: the finance/startup/economics themes are genuinely new territory — plan extra prep. Use local examples (a Reoti shop's P&L, a KCC loan, a mandi price) to teach demand-supply and budgeting.

English — Language & Literature Rudra

Was (old)

  • Beehive + Moments (Supplementary).
  • Reading, Writing & Grammar, Literature, ASL.

Now (2026-27)

  • New book: Kaveri — one common textbook for R1 and R2. Beehive/Moments retired.
  • Drama is now an explicit literature genre in the paper (alongside prose & poetry).
  • Grammar: Sequence of Tenses, Modals, Reported Speech, Conditional Type-1, Subject-Verb Concord, Determiners, Clauses.
  • Writing: Notice, Invitation/Poster, Letter to Editor, Formal E-mail, Article, Descriptive/Narrative Essay, Speech.
  • Subject-enrichment projects tagged ALS / Art / IKS / Tech-Integrated.
Exam: Reading 20 · Writing & Grammar 30 · Literature 30 = 80 theory + 20 IA (Periodic 5, Multiple 5, Portfolio 5, Enrichment 5).

Hindi Mahesh

Was (old)

  • Course A / Course B; Sparsh, Sanchayan, Kshitij, Kritika.

Now (2026-27)

  • Renamed R1 / R2; new NCF-2023 NCERT book (old set retired).
  • खंड: अपठित बोध 14 · व्यावहारिक व्याकरण 16 · पाठ्यपुस्तक 30 · रचनात्मक लेखन 20.
  • R1 grammar adds अलंकार (अनुप्रास/यमक/श्लेष); R2 adds विराम चिह्न + निपात + textbook-based समानार्थी/मुहावरे.
  • R1 अपठित = 1 गद्यांश + 1 काव्यांश; R2 = 2 गद्यांश.
Exam: 80 theory + 20 IA. Note: the new Hindi textbook's chapter list is not yet published by CBSE — pace literature from the book's contents once received.

Computer Applications (Code 165) Brajesh

Structure

  • Theory 50 + Practical 50 = 100.
  • Unit 1 Basics of IT (20) · Unit 2 Cyber Safety (15) · Unit 3 Office Tools (15).
  • Practical: Lab Test 30 (Word/Spreadsheet/Presentation 10 each) + Report File & Viva 10 + Project 10.
Largely unchanged for 2026-27. Emphasise cyber-safety (passwords, reporting cybercrime) and hands-on spreadsheet functions (SUM/AVERAGE/MAX/MIN/IF) + chart types.
